The population of the built-up area of Alton was 17,874 residents as reported by the 2021 Census. Alton is the last stop on the Alton line and provides train services to London Waterloo; however, there are no direct services heading south. To reach Southampton you will need to make a change, typically at Woking, or take the A31 west via Alresford and Winchester to get onto the M3. There is no direct train south. Does that matter here?
